MOVEAT - an out-patient long-term treatment program for overweight young adults with Down's syndrome that focuses on healthy eating and physcial activity

 

MovEat = move + eat = joy of movement and healthy eating

Subject:

MOVEAT is an out-patient long-term treatment program for overweight young adults with Down's syndrome that focuses on healthy eating and physcial activity.

Objectives:

  • Weight reduction and stabilization
  • Improvement of movement and eating behaviour
  • Increased awareness of the need to act independently in one's leisure time
  • Better psychosocial well-being that is adjusted to individual needs
  • Social integration
  • Medical attendance

Realisation:

In weekly meetings, and under expert guidance, a group of young adults with Down's syndrome work out...

  • healthy eating
  • sport and exercise programs adjusted to individual needs

Parents and other persons in charge regularly get informations concerning a healthy, balanced diet and active leisure activities. There are health and fitness checks on a regular basis in order to keep records of the young adults' achievements.

September 2008 -  August 2009 (2nd year)
