The review evaluates studies that tested how musicians can improve their performance through self-regulation strategies such as goal setting, imagery, attention focusing, relaxation, and self-evaluation.

Peter Gröpel contributed to an article on visual distraction during simulated neonatal resuscitation in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, Fetal & Neonatal edition (IF = 3.9). The study shows how important visual attention is for life-saving procedures in healthcare.

Peter Gröpel contributed to an article on mental health and exercise after Covid-19 in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health (IF = 5.6). The study shows that the adverse effects of COVID-19 containment on PA seem to alleviate after children and adolescents are allowed to return to schools.

Wolfgang Altermann and Peter Gröpel published an article on exercise and attention in the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology (IF = 3.3). They found that long-term exercise intervention is in general beneficial for adolescent students’ attention, with the greatest effects being observed in the coordination exercise group.

Wolfgang Altermann and Peter Gröpel published an article on physical fitness and attention in the Scientific Reports (IF = 4.6). The study shows that physical fitness explains 26% of the variance in the attentional test performance. Better physical fitness seems to be an advantage for adolescents’ cognitive performance.

The analysis revealed that approaches based on mindfulness and acceptance may be particularly suited to supporting musicians in maintaining a beneficial attentional focus during performance.
