We are happy to share our latest research findings on Opencap, a smartphone- and web-based markerless motion capture system.
This collaborative study between the University of Applied Science St. Pölten and University of Vienna delves into the intersession repeatability of OpenCap and the effects of clothing on gait kinematics. While there has been quite a lot of research on concurrent validity of 3D markerless systems, research on reliability for markerless is still very limited and non-existing for OpenCap.
The Key-Highlights and take-away messages of this study:
- Test-Retest Study: Conducted with 19 healthy volunteers performing walking and sit-to-stand tasks in different clothing conditions.
- Effects of clothing: We analyzed the effects of clothing (minimal vs. street wear) on reliability.
- While markerless might not be as accurate as marker-based systems one big advantage of this technology seems to be its reliability.
- Clothing had minimal effects, however, maintaining consistent clothing in repeated measures studies is still recommended to minimize overall variability.
