European Research Night

25.10.2022

Two weeks ago some members of our research group were exhibitors at the European researchers‘ night in Vienna, at the university of Applied Arts. Alexander Pürzel, Paul Kaufmann, Willi Koller and Hans Kainz prepared a hands-on station where visitors were able to learn about and try out biomechanical measurements. It was possible to live track and regulate muscle activity via surface electromyography sensors, detect weight shifts during movement or maintaining posture via force insoles, and see marker-less motion capture detected with a depth camera. With 74 scientific stations from different research fields, a stage program including the Austrian final of Science Slam and a show by Werner Gruber, it was an amazing event which was attended by about 3600 visitors. As children and adults visited our station, we had great talks about sport science and its applications in daily live, and hopefully we have awakened the interest of some kids and youngsters in biomechanics. Meet us there next year!
