Interventions for Performance Under Pressure

Making mistakes under pressure can be costly. Consequences may vary from losing a game in sports to serious harm by medical errors to fatal injuries in road accidents. Previous research has shown that intensive practice is necessary but not sufficient for efficient performance under pressure; being able to perform one's best when it matters is equally important.

We explore performance in high demanding situations, such as when being fatigued, mentally exhausted or under extensive pressure, and develop interventions for performance under pressure. Similar to the “personalized medicine” approach in healthcare, we propose that specific interventions (and combination of these) can be targeted to specific sports and tailored to specific personalities to produce optimal benefits.
