"Effect of sports and diet trainings to prevent obesity and secondary diseases and to influence young children's lifestyle”

In cooperation with the Austrian Academic Institute for Nutritional Medicine (ÖAIE) the department of trainings science is currently carrying out a study named “EDDY – Young, Effect of sports and diet trainings to prevent obesity and secondary diseases and to influence young children's lifestyle”. The Project was initiated by Österreichischer Herzfonds and was realized with the help of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Vienna School City Council.

The research assignment involves scientific support in the fields of sport science within the project “EDDY”. The study focus lies on the changes in motor performance, dietary behavior and overall health of children aged between 8 and 10 resulting from a school-based multicomponent intervention. A total of 160 children from two schools of Vienna are participating in the study. The children were split in two groups, one receiving a combined exercise and nutrition program while the other functions as the control group. A similar study was already carried out with children aged around 12 and serves as a role model for the current study.

The department of training science supports the study with the following assignments:

·         Support with the scientific approach in the fields of Sport Science within the study (content, tests, …)

·         Implementation of the physical assessment test

·         Implementation of the exercise intervention

·         Evaluation and analysis of the results (physical assessments)

·         Support within potential scientific publications
