ESB conference 2022

06.09.2022

The European Society of Biomechanics (ESB) organizes an annual scientific conference. The last two years this event was organized as an online meeting due to the COVID-19 restriction. This year it was finally possible to hold the congress on site again. Researchers were invited to the beautiful city of Porto in Portugal, situated on the Atlantic shore and the Douro River.

The congress was held from 26 th – 29 th of June and the department for Sport Science and University Sports of the University of Vienna was strongly represented with nine researchers as attendees. As mentioned in a previous post, seven oral presentations where held by members of the department “Biomechanics, Kinesiology and Computer Science in Sport”. Additional, Dr Kainz was the chair of two scientific sessions.

  • LONG TERM EFFECTS OF AN ACL RECONSTRUCTION ON KNEE JOINT KINEMATICS AND LOADING (J. Eichwalder, W. Koller, A. Baca, P. Weninger, H. Kainz)
  • INTRA-SUBJECT VARIABILITY OF FEMORAL GROWTH SIMULATIONS BASED ON PERSONALIZED FINITE ELEMENT MODELS (W. Koller, A. Baca, H. Kainz)
  • SHARED SYNERGIES BETWEEN COMPLEX MOVEMENTS (P. Kaufmann, L. Zweier, A. Baca, H. Kainz)
  • HIGHER JOINT LOADING DUE TO INCREASED JOINT ANGLES IN PROFESSIONAL COMPARED TO NOVICE LATIN DANCERS (C. Egner, H.-B. Schmiedmayer, H. Kainz)
  • FINGERBOARD HANGING LOCK-OFFS: REFINING PRACTICE GUIDELINES FOR CLIMBERS (J. Exel, O. Froschauer, D. Deimel, A. Baca, H. Kainz)

In addition to the scientific program, there was plenty of time to socialize at the welcome event, the conference dinner and the many coffee breaks.

Attendance and participation to the conference was funded by the GAMMA society for PhD student Willi Koller.
