Executive Functions in Sport

To understand the origin of a perfect assist in football, a great return in tennis or a well-timed cut shot in beach volleyball, it seems essential to analyze the fundamental cognitive processes leading to these outcomes. Especially the theory of executive functions (EFs) attracted some attention in this research area and revealed important results.

EFs are defined as a set of cognitive processes enabling human beings to plan, execute, attain, and adapt individual’s behavior. We explore these processes in more detail and test how to improve the quality of EFs assessment in sports.
